What Makes Voice Work So Powerful

Your voice is one of the most powerful resources you have. It’s intimate, it’s vulnerable, and it goes right to the core of who you are. Your voice has the power to heal, to soothe, to liberate, and to inspire.

Sound Moves Energy

Think of a time when you moved something heavy, did you make a sound? Or when you were exasperated or frustrated, did you utter something like Agghh!? When sound matches an emotion, it helps to release it. There is more space. Tears or laughter often follow, a feeling of liberation, even joy. Our emotions need to flow like water, like a river. There is always a quality of wholeness underneath a feeling of contraction, waiting to be discovered.

Sound Changes Your State of Consciousness

Just humming for a few minutes can change your state of consciousness. Our bodies are wired for sound. Using sound in this way calms the nervous system, inviting more clarity, peace, and receptivity. Mantras and sacred sounds have been used for thousands of years to connect to expanded states of consciousness. The deeper your state of consciousness, the more healing potential there is.

The Power of Witnessing

We all have a longing to be seen and heard. Especially heard.
When this need is met, something opens and relaxes inside of us. Many people who were shamed or judged in their early years are my clients.  If we are witnessed in an atmosphere of loving presence and trust, sharing our voice creates a new experience that heals the past experience of rejection. We can reclaim our voice and its full expression. Our voice is a treasure that can be accessed at any time.

Voice has a connection to the unconscious

Voice goes right to the heart of the matter. A place beyond words. A place of the soul. A direct connection to the unconscious.

Singing or sounding can touch the nuances of heart and soul. The sound does not represent a concept, it is the feeling/emotion itself. It is pure.  It moves past defenses, to what is enduring and true.

Think of a time when you were moved by a piece of music. Sound has a connection to our emotions, to what is held inside. Sounding is a way to go beyond the story,

I tell my clients, “Let your voice take you where you need to go. The more you trust your voice, the more it will open.” You can trust the body and its impulses towards healing.
